The Queen of Pop

Madonna. Born in 1958. Entertainer, singer, businesswoman, philantropist, provocateur and many more...

One of the most iconic woman ever and a perfect example of realizing the american dream. Since the 1980s she has been on top of the charts and she still continues to be.

When she was 20, she quitted her job at Dunkin' Donuts and having only 20$ moved to New York. It was hard at the beginning, but she did her best to earn money for a living. She tried to be a dancer and a model, but eventually it was her voice and personality that attracted DJs and producers. She started her music adventure together in a rockband, but later she released her first own demo in 1982, which met with approval in the clubs and signed her first solo record deal. Her next song 'Holiday' turned out to be one the biggest hits in that decade, reaching top of the charts all over the world.

That was just the beginning...

Her first self-titled album from 1983 was certified five times platinum by Recording Industry Association of America. Her following albums (i. e. 'Like a Virgin', 'True Blue', 'Like a Prayer') made her the world's best-selling female recording artist of all time. She is also a top-touring female artist (top 5 in total) and has two highest-grossing female tours - The Sticky & Sweet Tour and The MDNA Tour. She came to that not only by catchy tunes combined with thought-provoking lyrics. She broke every taboo she could think of, also the sexual one - experimenting with religious and erotic choreography was her trademark. She also pushed artistic boundaries and challenged audience's expectation and perception.
And that's what she is doing to this day. She's fighting with ageism. "Because women, generally, when they reach a certain age, have accepted that they're not allowed to behave a certain way. But I don't follow the rules. I never did, and I'm not going to start," she told Rolling Stone.
Raising Malawi foundation, founded by Madonna and Michael Berg, is something worth mentioning as well. It is a non-profit organization supporting community-based organizations that provide vulnerable children and caregivers with nutritious food, proper clothing, secure shelter, formal education, HIV consciousness, targeted medical care, emotional care and psychosocial support. It also built several school in Malawi.

Love her or hate her, she was and is one of the most influential woman on the planet.

TASK: Watch the music video of Like a Prayer and write a short review.
