Little Poland in the USA

Polish minority in the United States is most often associated with Chicago, yet noone knows about a little town that has population of not much more than 70,000 citizens- New Britain.

New Britain is located in the South of Connecticut. It is certainly amazing that despite its size, it managed to incorporate such a massive amount of Polish culture and have a quite significant amount of Polish- Americans (approximately 17% of town's population).

There are many local businesses that revolve around Polish culture such as restaurants or shops where you can get top-notch quality pierogies and products that are only available in Poland

Around April, there is a Polish festival held annualy- The Little Poland Festival. The entrance to the festival is always for free thanks to local businesses and residents, at their website, the organizers claim that there is actually a small price- a smile :).

The influence of Polish diaspora on the local community was so great, that it is suspected the Poles are partly responsible for change of their accent. People of New Britain nasalize some reduced vowels.

I encourage to follow the festival on facebook to be up to date with upcomming events and to read more about accent of New Britainers on wikipedia.
