The new hit series of HBO Westworld
During last decade there has been a shift in what a TV series should and should not be. Dull, pretty straight-forward episodes with not too complicated plot used to be a standard. Lately however, they emerged into something that could be even considered high art.
A perfect example of the latest trend is a brand-new production of HBO- Westworld. A series inspired by the 1973 film of the same title written by Michael Crichton about a futuristic theme park populated by artificial beings.
Westworld isn't however your typical theme park. However the name gives you the idea of what it might be- it is stylised in a wild west kind of way, the rest you probably wouldn't expect.
The park is a hi-tech invention of two scientists- Dr. Robert Ford (Anthony Hopkins) and Bernard. The "fun" is provided by so called "hosts". And the definition of "fun" is probably another thing you wouldn't expect- in order to fully explore the park the guests can do virtually anything. LITERALLY anything. Guests are allowed to kill, rape, drink, but are in a sence immortal.
As the plot developes, it becomes more twisted and more confusion is brought to the viewer. It is an intelectual feast that demands, or rather provokes, from everyone watching involvment.
Even if you're not a great fan of science-fiction, you might like it (to say the least) regardless.
If you already have watched some episodes of Westworld, let us know below how did you like it and how does it compare to other series you've seen already :)
